Living your best life-as a business plan: journey to self-employment

In today’s episode of the Pajama Party Profits podcast, host Brenda Trott and guest Sherisse Marie dive deep into the world of self-employment and the importance of finding joy in our work. They share personal stories, insights, and practical tips for turning passion into profit while maintaining a heart-centered approach to business.

  1. Meet Sherisse Marie
Sherisse Marie, a seasoned marketer with over 30 years of experience working with small businesses, joins Brenda to share her journey. She emphasizes the importance of building systems that create lasting legacies and living a heart-centered life. “Who wants to create a job for themselves if they don’t have to?” she quips, highlighting the freedom self-employment brings.
  2. The Inspiration Behind Pajama Party Profits
Brenda Trott introduces the podcast as a platform to inspire individuals seeking to make a living from home. With an exciting upcoming manifestation sprint aimed at generating holiday income, she sets the tone for the episode. The goal is not just to earn money but to enjoy the journey.
  3. From Corporate to Self-Employment
Sherisse reflects on her transition from a successful career in corporate America to self-employment due to burnout from an autoimmune disease. This pivotal moment led her to reassess her life and business goals. “I had these little side hustles. Let me turn one of them into an actual business that makes sense,” she recalls, illustrating how adversity can lead to new opportunities.
  4. The Value of Side Hustles
Sherisse discusses her early experiences with side hustles, including selling products through a direct sales company. This experience taught her valuable sales skills that later became crucial in her marketing career. “Either you learned how to be a good salesperson, or you simply did it for a few months and left to do other things,” she notes, emphasizing the survival of the fittest mentality in sales.
  5. Living Your Best Life as a Business Plan
The conversation shifts to the philosophy of creating a business plan rooted in personal happiness. Sherisse articulates that midlife is often a time for reassessment, where individuals seek to make their lives more meaningful. “Let’s make the rest of our life be the life that we actually enjoy waking up for every day,” she encourages.
  6. The Importance of Fun
Both hosts agree on prioritizing joy in life and work. Sherisse points out that no one wishes they had worked harder on their deathbed; instead, people long for more time with loved ones and doing what makes them happy. “Life is too short not to have fun,” she asserts, reinforcing the idea that enjoyment should come first.
  7. The Journey to Success
Sherisse shares her belief that success doesn’t happen overnight. “It took me 30 years to become an overnight success,” she quotes, underscoring the decades of hard work required to achieve greatness. Drawing parallels with sports, she emphasizes that even the best athletes spend countless hours practicing before they achieve success.

Conclusion:
The episode concludes with a powerful reminder that the journey to self-employment and success is not a straight path but one filled with learning, growth, and joy. Key takeaways include the importance of finding joy in work, the value of side hustles, and the need to prioritize personal happiness as part of a business strategy. Embrace the journey, and remember that you get to do what you love, not have to.

Lisa Morgan (00:17.408)
you
Pajama Party Profits (00:27.727)
I have created a macro balanced cookbook. It’s called less cooking, more eating. You can find it on Amazon for only $2 and 99 cents. So go over there and save yourself a whole lot of trouble. Pick up that book and send me an email. Let me know that you did. All right. Today we have Lisa Morgan. She’s an expert in amnesia and soul fracturing and her paradigm for the stress response illuminates sticks instead of great.
sprint, fight, freeze, fawn, flop and fracturing. And she says saved her life. So here today to tell us more about that is Lisa. Welcome Lisa.
Lisa Morgan (01:10.632)
Yay, I love pajama parties. When was the last time I’ve been to one? It’s been a long time. Thank you for having me, Thank you.
Pajama Party Profits (01:11.534)
Yes!
Pajama Party Profits (01:16.533)
All right, well, welcome to the party.
Absolutely. So this show is really about inspiring others to work from home. So I’d love for you to tell us, I have a feeling this is not your first domain, right? How did you actually get started working for yourself?
Lisa Morgan (01:42.08)
Well, actually my first career was music therapy.
And I worked in the general hospitals and the first hospital for 10 years building music therapy from nothing, absolutely nothing to from scratch taking it hospital wide, even into labor and delivery music therapy, assisted childbirth. had my three kids with my music therapy, but I worked out of the psychiatric and the chemical dependency units for the biggest part. And then the second hospital was in the psych units and stress management unit and all that kind of stuff. And I walked away from two downsizing hospitals that were toxic corporate
just killing my soul. I walked away at the first one and after the second one I lasted six more years there and I said I will never be an employee again ever ever ever and that started my entrepreneurial career 1996 and I became sort of a contract music therapist doing music fun shops.
and very experiential, creative, team building kinds of music based, music choreographed activities to help people just be creative and have fun and connect and try crazy things. The crazier I could make it, the better. The more fun, laughter, was all about that. that came from the psych and the chemical dependency units where I just wanted them to laugh. I wanted them to feel alive when they weren’t under the influence.
of drugs or whatever and I just took it on and carried it through and I’m actually like revisiting the whole thing and merging now my music therapy fun shop with my my coaching modality which is all about positive psychology and empowerment and resiliency and putting the two together and I’m actually going to start trying to take it out into Albuquerque. I moved here eight years ago so this would be merging music therapy and coaching into
Lisa Morgan (03:39.178)
a really positive psychology and transformational program.
Pajama Party Profits (03:43.74)
You warmed my heart with one phrase. Like it just popped right out because this is, this is my theme. This has been my theme for a whole year and I’m not ready to change it. The more fun I have, the more money I make. And when I remember that, that’s what happens. So what you said about your music therapy was bringing in that creativity, bringing in the fun. And so as, as you’re doing things, if you found that to ring true, I’m sure it wasn’t.
all, I’m going to be my own. This is, this is the story that we hear and we’re going to dig a just a little bit deeper under there. We hear this a lot. I decided I was never going to work for somebody alone or again. And all of a sudden I’m a billionaire. Doesn’t always work quite like that way. Right? There’s some, there’s some things that trip us up. Okay. my gosh. Now I can’t just wake up, go punch in a card and get paid. I get to generate that income myself, but even if it’s not the one thing.
you find that the creativity has brought you to more things and then to merge everything that we have. Am I on the right track here?
Lisa Morgan (04:51.485)
Yes and no. I actually lived my first 50 years with exuberance, vitality, joy, passion, adventure, fun, creativity, full self-expressed travel, you name it, music therapy. And then when I walked away from the two hospitals and I said, I’ll never be an employee again, four years later, when I decided, okay, now I want to try to get back out in the world, but I can’t go back to be an employee. So I got to figure out the next step.
And the minute you become an entrepreneur, it’s like you’re putting yourself out on the world stage naked. You’re all alone. You’re exposed. You’re vulnerable. And all the, can I say S-H-I-T? All the stuff inside of you that is buried down under in the subconscious just gets triggered and it just like rises up and…
Pajama Party Profits (05:36.072)
Yeah.
Lisa Morgan (05:50.528)
That’s why people get stuck when they want to become an entrepreneur and they’re on their own and they’re putting themselves out there and they’re naked and exposed and vulnerable. All their buried insecurities, doubts, programming, know, the subconscious programming, the things that happened from birth on, it gets triggered. And that’s the answer.
Pajama Party Profits (06:10.937)
Absolutely. You and I met through a certification program. take people through that process and realizing exactly where they’re stuck. Absolutely. That, that, that just rings a bell. It’s not just the, the physical thing that we’re know about the conscious part that we know about. We’re like, man. Right. You just push through it. That’s what all the gurus say. Just push through it. But there’s something like in eight.
that is a physical barrier to getting that stuff done. So getting able to work around or to dissolve that is even better. Yeah, awesome.
Lisa Morgan (06:37.459)
Yeah.
Lisa Morgan (06:49.663)
And I just want to add mindset, mastery and more strategies do not cure this. We’re talking about deeply embedded nervous system programming, which is what fear and procrastination and avoidance and holding back and playing small, all those variations, self-sabotage, that is nervous system programming. And that’s what’s been missing in coaching.
Pajama Party Profits (07:12.965)
Hmm.
Lisa Morgan (07:15.293)
I mean, I’ve spent thousands, I hate to say how many thousands and thousands of dollars on coaching programs since 2002. And they never addressed that. And then you beat yourself up and think, what’s wrong with me? Why can’t I make this happen? Why am I afraid? Why am I pulling back? Whatever. And it’s not your brain. It’s not your, you know, your brilliance. It’s not your history, your career path. It’s the programming that’s living in the
of a system that took root. And we got to get down to healing that.
Pajama Party Profits (07:48.879)
So Lisa, tell me how are people?
finding you as the answer to these problems.
Lisa Morgan (08:01.695)
You mean like finding me online or finding me what I do is helping them or what exactly do you mean?
Pajama Party Profits (08:08.485)
Yeah, I mean, that’s when we’re being an entrepreneur, right? So we can even talk about what it was when you did the music therapy on your own. When you left the hospital, I’m going to do this on my own. I’m going to do my own workshops. Like that’s probably the biggest question people wake up with is how do I get my customers? How do I get my clients? How do I, so how did it work for you? How did people find you?
Lisa Morgan (08:35.141)
Well, the music therapy, the fun shops that I did, I lived in St. Louis for 40 years and I, I networked, you know, when I became the entrepreneur, the music fun shops just sort of just sort of flowed from my years in the hospitals and the connections I had. And I was in women’s networking organizations and I would offer, you know, this for one of their their mini
conventions or whatever. And I was doing music therapy conventions as well. And I was doing presentations at conventions and stuff like that. I was really well known in St. Louis for music therapy. I was like the real leader in the field there. So those opportunities were there. But when I shattered in 1999 and literally was my body was just overtaken by panic and anxiety. And I was just like,
struggling to figure out what the heck was going on with me inside of me. I’ve never had so much debilitating, know, just dysfunctional, debilitating depression and, and disease and just, I mean, it was just the worst thing I’ve ever been through. And it was nonstop all the time. And at that point I was like, I don’t know what’s going on in me, but I’m going to figure it out. And I knew I,
always said that I’m not living in the past, but the past is living in me.
And I don’t know what it is that’s going on down there, because I lived for 50 years with extreme success. You know, and then all of a sudden, bam, I’m just like derailed. And, and because I’d worked in psychiatry, I said, I will never pursue traditional talk therapy psychiatry. I don’t want to be labeled. I don’t want to be drugged out. I don’t want, you know, I knew that there were, I knew, I knew what I already knew. And it was what I didn’t know that I knew I had to figure out. So I was on a
Pajama Party Profits (10:37.682)
that three times real fast.
Lisa Morgan (10:39.073)
mission and a quest.
I knew what I already knew, but it was what I didn’t know that I had to figure out. Yeah. You know?
Pajama Party Profits (10:45.78)
Love it. Yeah.
Lisa Morgan (10:49.049)
And that and I was on a quest and I and I just instinctively knew that it was about my body. It was about something buried inside of me and I and energy, psychology, energy, medicine, energy healers, psychics, healers, know, therapists, coaches galore. But all kinds of energy things. I tried everything and shamans. mean, I really pulled out the stops and that’s the amnesia and the soul fracturing.
ultimately came to was that I have lived with 100 % total amnesia about my past and horrific. I have had a horrific life and amnesia protected me from ever having to see the things that I lived through. Starting in the womb and the minute I was born and for 50 years, know, my father, it was was extreme atrocities. I lived through atrocities and I still
do not see the memories have a visual image in my mind of the things that I now know I live through. And that’s still protecting me. That’s the soul fracturing. That’s the soul parts that came into being when I was enduring something that was so horrific, so overwhelming to a child’s system that your soul fractured part comes into being, holds that memory away from your consciousness, stores it away. And they still hold those things.
and my parts speak, if people have heard of multiple personality or internal family systems, my parts are all, I only have one name and that was Lovie, my five year old, actually a nickname that my mother gave me. And she was my joy child. And I now know that literally the divine, God, source, whatever, which we are a human being, we’re a spiritual being having a human experience. So we are,
human ego, we are divine sparks of the divine source energy, divine energy. And these soul parts are literally living in me, as me, through me. They still talk, they channel now. They literally not just live in the past and reveal the things I lived through, but they give me messages from the divine. They’re teaching me, they even come into my coaching session
Lisa Morgan (13:18.549)
Because I’m pretty out there and open with my clients and they know that being real and being wrong, being truthful and honest is the name of the game where we are not judged. We are just being human and they come out and they’ll say something like, Lisa, this is for you, but it’s for Susie Q too. I gotta tell you something, this is for both of you. And then they reveal something. And my mind is always, are they really gonna say something that I don’t know? And they do.
It’s like they are channeling, know? It’s such a gift.
Pajama Party Profits (13:49.084)
So how did you, so what you’re saying is that you kind of crashed and then you had to get yourself out of that crash and that inspired you to help others do the same?
Lisa Morgan (13:56.156)
Yeah.
Lisa Morgan (14:00.959)
on a healing point.
Well, actually, because I had done this program called the Landmark Education Forum, it was the first time, 1996, I heard the word coaching being used. And the master of ceremonies had a microphone. And if you wanted to raise your hand, you’d stand up. They’d give you a microphone. She’d walk to you. You’d be talking. And then all of a sudden, she’d be right in your face. And she’d say, Lisa, will you take the coaching?
Well, what’s that? Take the coaching. Okay. Anyway, that really, that, that whole program was all about the first, my first introduction to coaching. And so when I crashed and burned and was like struggling, I, was watching Oprah every day and she was featuring coaches, Dr. Phil, Cheryl Richardson, Ivana, Zylon or however you say her name. They were all coaches. And I thought coaching, I wonder if I could do coaching.
And I went online, found the International Coach Academy in Sydney, Australia, signed up, and that started my whole next path. And the coaching program I was in, the way you got started was when you were the beginner coach, you were being coached by the three or six month.
coaches, you know, in training. And then when you hit the six month mark, you started coaching the new people coming into the program. And the guy I coached continued with me for a year afterwards. He started paying me after our time was up. He continued to be my client. I don’t know how I think it was really networking being out in the public eye and continuing with those groups that I was in. Now I wasn’t Lisa, the fun shop lady or
Lisa Morgan (15:51.578)
Lisa the linen lady, got into an MLM business that was private quarters, was luxury linens. so I was Lisa the linen lady, but then I became the coach and just continued that path. yeah, it’s you know, people, you got to connect.
Pajama Party Profits (16:07.128)
Okay, well we’re gonna pause for just a second because we are at a party and what is a party without a game? So here’s how this one works. Are you ready? No, because you don’t know how it works.
Lisa Morgan (16:15.089)
yes.
Lisa Morgan (16:23.005)
Yeah. I’m always ready for a game.
Pajama Party Profits (16:25.4)
I’m going to write down some words and you I will give them to you one at a time and we’ll see if you can figure out how they’re related they’re in a category. All right I haven’t played this one on Pachon Party Profit so if it if it goes bust it goes bust but we’re gonna see. I just have to write them down real quick so
Lisa Morgan (16:40.656)

Lisa Morgan (16:54.291)

Pajama Party Profits (18:19.98)
You’re on the right track. The next one is dog.
Lisa Morgan (18:27.647)

Pajama Party Profits (18:41.452)
But an air groomer?
Lisa Morgan (18:46.255)
air, dog, feather, hair, and dog.
Pajama Party Profits (18:47.447)
All right, here’s the last one. This should tell you. Ready? Paint.
Lisa Morgan (18:54.953)
hate.
Lisa Morgan (19:04.219)
I mean… Paint? Air? Airbrushing? Airbrushing?
Pajama Party Profits (19:07.008)
When I tell you, you’re gonna be like, you’re gonna brush!
Lisa Morgan (19:14.8)
a brush.
Pajama Party Profits (19:19.062)
Let’s hands in the air because you both, you and I both teach our clients to celebrate, right? So celebrate, got it. I used to have little buttons. We’ll see if we can get those back. Yay.
Lisa Morgan (19:19.423)
you
Lisa Morgan (19:34.164)
god, that is really funny. A brush. An airbrush.
Pajama Party Profits (19:35.893)
Now this is a reminder to our watchers and our listeners, always take one minute a day and find something to laugh about. love that Lisa said, this is fun, this is hilarious. Was she succeeding? No. Was it still fun? It was. And she was laughing and succeeding. So yay. And celebrate.
Lisa Morgan (19:55.058)
Yeah. That was so much fun. can’t, I mean, I was so mystified, which is fun. I love that.
Pajama Party Profits (20:01.173)
Awesome. All right, Lisa, you have a gift for people who are watching today who also might have something that’s stopping them from being an entrepreneur. Do you want to go ahead and tell us what that’s about? What? Why they would want it and where to find it.
Lisa Morgan (20:22.757)
So I do, it’s called an ebook and you can get it at my website which I can share with you but it’s called Anxiety and Panic are Not the Problem. They’re Only the Messenger. And it’s seven trauma-informed master keys to soothe the nervous system, upgrade the belief code.
and reclaim your empowerment energy. So trauma is like the word of the day, right? I mean, everybody’s walking around feeling stressed, I’m so traumatized, whatever. And that’s all nervous system programming. And it does stop us. It does. And there are ways to intervene. And if you’ve been dealing with anxiety, the way I did that the panic and anxiety can be so debilitating. I want people to stop suffering. And this does have really
concrete ways to intervene when you’re in the moment of feeling anxious. You know, things that you can do right here, right now for yourself. The seven trauma informed keys to help soothe your nervous system.
Pajama Party Profits (21:27.684)
they’re going to able to kind of take a self-assessment by reading this book and kind of figure out what they need help in what area.
Lisa Morgan (21:35.359)
It’s an ebook, so yeah, I mean it sets it up, it gives a little bit of my story to explain why I’m so passionate about this and why I really want to help people stop suffering with this. And then it goes into very specific types of things you can do for yourself to help yourself.
Pajama Party Profits (21:53.04)
Awesome, I love it. And where can they find that? your website?
Lisa Morgan (21:59.176)
So it’s Lisa Coaching ABQ. The ABQ stands for Elbow Crookie. I couldn’t get my name. I couldn’t get Lisa Morgan. I couldn’t get anything to do with my name. So Lisa Coaching ABQ.
Pajama Party Profits (22:13.787)
ABQ for Albuquerque. Awesome. So one thing, if you don’t mind me sharing, he said it’s called an ebook and that means that it’s an electronic book. So I’m just going to go in a little bit of a bandwagon here because this is what I do. I go straight for people. help people write and create books. And I want to say if you’ve created an ebook, for example, the cookbook that I plugged at the beginning, right? The leftover Turkey edition of,
Lisa Morgan (22:22.271)
Mm-hmm.
Pajama Party Profits (22:43.666)
less cooking, more eating. When you’ve taken the time to publish something, whether it’s published as a PDF, whether it’s published as a Kindle book, whether it is published as a full hardcover or paperback book, it still takes the time and it’s still a book. So you can say, download a copy of my book. You don’t have to subsequently tell everybody it’s an
ebook like it’s something less because that’s an accomplishment and I’m going to celebrate it with you right here.
Lisa Morgan (23:21.035)
you know what, Brenda? And I gotta tell you, I just came across a coach that helps people write their websites and all this stuff. And it was all this stuff about the ebook and it should be short. It should be a checklist. It should be this. And I’m like, my God, mine is so long. I’m thinking, no, okay, whatever. But it is almost a mini book. Yeah.
Pajama Party Profits (23:38.159)
You could get so many different types of advice from so many different people. If it’s a value to someone, then it’s a value, right? And the truth is if they’re gonna work with you and they don’t have the attention span to go through that, then they might not be the right client. So if you want to add a checklist that’s easier for someone, if you’re someone who’s watching and you think you might want that, but it’s a whole book, look at the table of contents.
You figure it out. You’ll figure it out. So yeah, one of the first
Lisa Morgan (24:11.653)
Skip and go to where you want to go because there is a table of contents.
Pajama Party Profits (24:17.297)
Well, I’ll tell you, I don’t even know if it was one of the first, but yeah, probably one of the first certifications I ever received was on baby massage. I taught people how to massage their babies with, um, with, um, what do you say? Uh, permission. The first thing you’re doing is you’re teaching your baby that to have permission, right? You’re, you’re giving them a little symbol. we going to.
Lisa Morgan (24:37.961)
Baby, you want?
Pajama Party Profits (24:44.192)
it’s okay to massage and they turn away. They’re like, I don’t want that. Then you don’t do it. Okay. That was, that was what I learned. But the thing that I want to point out right here is, there’s two things. One is I don’t remember which mentor taught me this, but done is always better than perfect. So if you’ve got something out there and maybe it’s not the right thing, cause I know that that’s where your anxiety was right there. this person says I should have something shorter.
The other thing I’m going to tell you is what I learned in that class. When I teach people to massage their babies, there’s one important thing you have to do for safety. Always go clockwise on the belly. Never, counterclockwise. But other than that, you can’t mess it up. Right? my gosh. If we teach, go from the head down to the toes and you start the toes and go up, you are not messing up that child. So whatever you’ve done and you’ve done for the benefit of others.
You can’t mess it up. Do you agree with me, Lisa?
Lisa Morgan (25:49.484)
my God, you’re such a godsend. mean, that’s so compassionate, loving, kind, warm, everything. I mean, I’m not that anxious about that I didn’t have a checklist. It was just like, it was just sort of like, but I love what you’ve said. And I love your taking care of me in this pajama party. Thank you very much.
Pajama Party Profits (26:07.979)
this is party. We’re doing each other’s hair and our nails, right?
Lisa Morgan (26:14.757)
Yeah. With the brux! With the brux!
Pajama Party Profits (26:17.359)
What?
Pajama Party Profits (26:21.838)
you enjoyed that game, I might carry that one on for a few other things. It’s a little bit mind-bending and you get really nervous. my gosh, if I get it wrong, what happens if you get it wrong? Wow. The world is not, okay. You had to get it wrong four times before you could get it right. And then we got it right. We celebrated. So, that’s a lot, has a lot to do with businesses. And what I’ve noticed is in a recurring theme, the people that I bring on here is the first thing that they did is not the thing that they’ve done for 25 years. That is the freedom of entrepreneurship.
Lisa Morgan (26:37.919)
Yeah.
Pajama Party Profits (26:51.615)
is we could shift as our own interests, our own persuasion, our own gumption, right? What was that? Our own growth. We get to pivot and we get to continue that growing thing as entrepreneurs. And one of the things, I don’t know if you’re familiar with this guy, Chris Corner, the Corner’s office.
Lisa Morgan (27:03.901)
growth.
Our growth. Our growth.
Pajama Party Profits (27:20.084)
He says something that just struck me as.
so freedom forming for my own business is, you could just do things. You can just do things. You don’t have to have a system or a step. And the truth is so many people out there are telling you stick to one thing, stick to one thing. And if I had done that, I would be, on the streets broken. And that’s a whole nother story. So pick something and do it. And if something else comes to mind,
You can test that while you’re doing something else. I’m not telling everyone to just like do everything all at once because then nothing gets done. But nobody says you have to be one person. I’m a lady without a niche. Here I am. I’m a lady without a niche.
Yeah
Lisa Morgan (28:15.935)
You’re so funny. gosh, this is great.
Pajama Party Profits (28:17.899)
Yeah, Lisa you are such a pleasure to have here. I have one more question for you before before we close the show and that is I Asked what is one thing you would tell something just thinking about? Starting something that would generate income outside of a job
Lisa Morgan (28:44.829)
Do what you love and the money will follow. There’s a book titled that, a coaching book, but honestly it is all about being authentic to yourself. Like if you love it, if you’ve got the passion and it just juices you up.
you’re going to be successful. People are going to want to have some of that juice, matter what it is, whatever shape or form it comes out of you. That’s what we’re here to do. That’s what life is about. We are here to share our own unique version of love in this world. And if you can, if you can marry your, your
your career path or your ventures, your experiments with love, that you enjoy it and love it and just are lit up by it, then other people are going to want to participate. Absolutely. And pay you for it.
Pajama Party Profits (29:34.225)
I could not agree more. don’t have, I don’t know if 20 seconds is enough to share the story, but the first hundred dollars that I made had nothing to do with the thing that I was pitching. They went for the excitement that I shared and showed. So yay. Thank you so much, Lisa. You have a wonderful month and I hope we might see you again on the pajama party profit show. Wait, we might see you again on the pajama party profit show.
Lisa Morgan (30:05.461)
Thank you.

Steve Garvin- Which way do I go?

00:00:15.599 –> 00:00:33.300
Brenda Trott: In times like these, more and more people are trying to figure out how they are going to profit while at home or while traveling if they’re allowed to do so. But basically, or in their PJs and you never know if I’m wearing those pajama party pants.

6
00:00:59.280 –> 00:01:10.110
Brenda Trott: Yes. You just recently before I forget to mention you recently interviewed me on your upcoming channel. So will we will post a link to that. So you can see me in the hot seat. It doesn’t happen as often. I love to ask the questions not answer them. So we’ll make sure that people get to check out your YouTube channel as well.

00:01:55.200 –> 00:02:04.800
Steve Garvin: Corporations tend to Judge their success on how efficient and effective they’re being.

00:02:31.980 –> 00:02:41.430
Steve Garvin: But if it doesn’t have an emotional reward if it doesn’t have an emotional payback for you then being efficient and effective is kind of like pushing the rock up the hill but it doesn’t ever become this wonderful experience because it’s just a grind.

21
00:03:43.140 –> 00:03:55.380
Brenda Trott: So what did you do, did you just stop or did you make a plan or what will happen.

23
00:04:05.850 –> 00:04:23.430
Steve Garvin: And when I was leaving, literally, leaving the building. After getting that pink slip. I, I literally felt like doing cartwheels. I mean, I was just so relieved and felt so good that I didn’t have to keep pushing that rock up the hill.

35
00:06:08.280 –> 00:06:18.480
Steve Garvin: Being in the candy store right you know you’ve got like all this candy around you. It’s like, everything looks good. You’re like, Oh my gosh, I could have this and I could have this and I could have that, you know, and you

39
00:06:41.190 –> 00:06:47.610
Brenda Trott: You had this big sigh of relief. I don’t have to do that anymore and a determination. I’m not going to do that anymore. But no real plan yet is that kind of what you’re saying?

00:07:01.680 –> 00:07:11.310
Steve Garvin: Yes, exactly. Yeah, it’s you know, it’s, that’s why I call it the creative wilderness because it’s like, you know, you’re out in this place and it can be really beautiful and amazing and wonderful. Kind of like Alison Wonderland and meeting the Cheshire Cat, you say I don’t know where to go from here and the Cheshire Cat says, well, really depends on where you want to get.

53
00:09:08.220 –> 00:09:26.850
Brenda Trott: There, there’s this no feeling of safety, either. So we’re with this complete freedom and all of a sudden like know right. What, or where do I go from here. I love that. Yes, the discussion with the Cheshire Cat. I can see it. So how did you figure it out.

00:09:28.920 –> 00:09:41.040
Steve Garvin: Well, one of the things that I eventually learned to do and i one of the tools that I latched on to early on in the journey was something called morning pages.

00:12:45.270 –> 00:12:51.810
Steve Garvin: You can’t see the forest for the trees. Right. I mean, it’s just so when you face. They can’t really see where you are.

00:13:37.290 –> 00:13:48.210
Brenda Trott: Really what’s going on in so many people’s heads when they are trying to decide where to go from here. And sometimes, like me, it’s due to an illness.

00:14:47.460 –> 00:15:02.400
The one thing you don’t want to do is hide under a rock or and or in your bed with the sheets over your head for too long.

00:15:03.840 –> 00:15:08.520
Brenda Trott: Because when you take action, even if it’s imperfect action you’re getting data.

Brenda Trott: I think, I think I have one, two out of 10 games.

00:20:06.630 –> 00:20:08.910
Brenda Trott: You have a gift idea!

00:23:19.200 –> 00:23:26.340
Steve Garvin: I realized that I could do something with story, but I do things with story that’s that are a little bit different.

207
00:25:40.380 –> 00:25:59.880
Steve Garvin: Yes. Yeah, if they go to http://giftsintogold.com/map then they can get my treasure map that will take them on the journey from there what I call our cozy cottage to their creative Castle and the steps that are along the way to navigate that journey.

221
00:27:57.990 –> 00:27:59.190
Brenda Trott: It’s life changing.
